4/5 Review: New Leaf by Catherine Anderson

When Taffeta Brown was viciously betrayed by her wealthy husband, she lost everything—including custody of their daughter, Sarah. Now that Taffy has moved to Mystic Creek, Oregon, to start over, she unexpectedly meets the one man who might help her get Sarah back.

Barney Sterling, a local lawman, finds himself drawn to the lovely, guarded Taffy, but he’s stunned by her proposition—that they marry immediately to improve her chances of regaining custody of her daughter. Barney takes marriage too seriously to commit himself to a woman he hardly knows. Yet soon his sympathies fall with the desperate Taffy, and pretending to be in love becomes the easiest part of the plan. But they have no idea what they’re up against, or what they’re willing to risk to make a miracle come true in Mystic Creek.

**********

New Leaf is the second book in the Mystic Creek series by Catherine Anderson, but it could easily be read as a stand alone. I read my first Catherine Anderson about 5 years ago and have been a fan ever since She has such a way with characters, making them real and loveable that makes it impossible to put the books down.In New Leaf we hear the story of Barney Sterling, the Deputy Sheriff, in the quaint small town of Mystic Creek Oregon and Taffeta Brown, who just moved to Mystic Creek and opened her own business. Taffeta is hiding a secret about her past that she is afraid the people in the small town will find out about.

The story was great. From the main plot to the sub-plots, everything was pieced together so nicely that I lived in Mystic Creek. I could feel the sense of community and love between Barney's family and the town itself. I could really relate to the characters, main or supporting. I also couldn't help but fall in love and sympathize with Taffeta. Reading this series makes me want to move to a small town. The love and the support Taffy and Sarah receive throughout the book is what had me anxiously waiting to turn the page and read more. I can not wait for Book#3.

Catherine Anderson weaves together secrets, mystery, and real world issues with tender romance and justice in an unfair world through compelling characters that draw you into their world. As you read New Leaf, you'll experience a roller coaster ride of emotions and a deep sense of rightness at the healing power of love. A touching love story that will stay with you long after the final page. Anderson gives her readers a warm, fun, touching romance. This is exactly the sort of series I'd crack open  when needing to get away from it all. Don't miss reading this wonderful heartwarming romance.
