I have read books by Lori Handeland before but this series is great. This story gripped me from the very first page. Living in a place your whole life knowing that you are different and not having anyone to talk to about it is a lonely existence. That is Raye’s Larsen's life. She can see ghosts but can’t tell anyone about it because she is afraid of what will happen to her. She manages to make a life for herself in her town and even if she is not happy and content, she is able to enjoy some of her days. She is a kindergarten teacher in her town and gets a lot of enjoyment from the children. Then murders begin to happen in her town and the life she has built begins to crumble.
Bobby Doucet is a homicide detective from New Orleans that travels to Raye’s town because something in the killings seems like some of his open cases. He gets into town just in time to save Raye and spends the rest of the story trying to keep her alive while trying to figure out why she is being hunted. Raye finds out things about her past that answer some questions and raise others. While so many things are happening Raye and Bobby fall in love, but it is not easy to accept for either of them. I totally recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one in the series.
