Review: Rebel of Copper Creek by R. C. Ryan

A love worth fighting for . . .

The Rebel of Copper Creek is the second book in the Copper Creek Cowboys series, however it stands well on its own.  However, they mystery seems to be started in Book 1.

Griff is a Marine who upon returning from Afghanistan learns that the father he never knew has died.  He is accepted into his new family and is adjusting slowly into his new family.  When he is out with his brother he runs into a fellow veteran that he met on his tour.  Jimmy tells him about a group doing riding therapy and asks Griff to come with him to check it out.  There is where Griff meets a young widow and her sons.

Juliet’s life has been full of hardship.  Her husband past away after she cared for after he became disabled.  She is left with two young boys and a ranch that is falling down around her.  She wants to offer riding therapy but the hydraulic lift she needs is broken. 

Griff meets Juliet and her boys and sees himself growing up without a father.  And finds himself drawn to them and to the lovely Juliet.   The road to love isn’t always paved with hearts and flowers, but Griff takes on the job protecting the family.  Can Juliet let go of her deceased husband and learn to love again?

R. C. Ryan’s characters are well defined and realistic.  Watching Griff and Juliet struggle with their past to find a future is wonderful!  The writing style is fluid and pulls you into the story and will keep you turning pages!

If you are looking for a read that has a bit of it all – romance, family, hope, suspense, and mystery, thrown together with a wonderful sprinkling of humor, this one is definitely worth the time.

This is the first book that I have read by Kieran Kramer and I must say I am very pleased.  I don’t read many contemporary romances but this one is above average.

True Maybeck and Harrison Gamble were friends 10 years ago, and Harrison left to pursue a music career.  True was a debutant and Harrison was beneath her station as far as her family was concerned.  On the day she is picking up her wedding dress – she runs into Harrison.  Can he make her see that she is making a horrible mistake marrying Dubose is a mistake?

Ms. Kramer’s writing is lovely, she pulls you into the small town south and made me want to sip sweet tea.  The book is about family, coming home, and listening to your heart.  If you are looking for a sweet romance, full of southern charm, then this one is a keeper.

Review: One Good Earl by Sarah MacLean

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean is a great combination of passion and humor.  It is the second installment in series The Rules of Scoundrels.  It can be read as a standalone but I wish I had read the first book, A Rogue by Any Other Name first.  The book grabbed my attention and kept me interested from the first page

Lady Phillipa Marbury is the fourth daughter of the Marquess.  She knows there is something different about her.  She would rather read then worry about balls and dressing up.  She has been betrothed and knows although they have very little in common that he is a kind man and will treat her well.  Being the studious young thing she is she decides to live life to its fullest and research the forbidden side of life.  Phillipa needs a guide to the seedy side of London and she wants it to be the Earl of Harlow – commonly known only as Cross.

Cross finds Pippa in his room and has him wondering what and how she got into his private office and points out he has made a mistake in his accounting, and then asks him to teach her what goes on between a man and woman in bed.  He turns her away until she breaks him down and he realizes he may have met his match in Pippa.

             Cross is a different type of hero but I felt he and Pippa are meant for each other.  Ms. MacLean’s research on the time period is evident and her writing takes you back in time.  The sexual tension between Pippa and Cross is evident and when they come together it is passionate but not over the top.

If you are looking for a lovely sexually charged period romance I would highly recommend this one, and I look forward to reading more of the series.

Review: Amazon Roulette by C. M. Gleason

Marina Alexander, search and rescue expert, is fortunate enough to be on hand when a young couple gets lost in an old cave in Northern Michigan. She also discovers what brought them deep into the ancient copper mine: possible proof of European visitors to North America far earlier than believed. 

Though it could be the biggest find of her career, Marina fears there is a connection to her grandfather—the patriarch of a Siberian tribe and eco-terrorist group—and that he will draw her back into the fold. 

Meanwhile, it’s clear the eco-terrorists are planning a new attack on U.S. soil, for they leave a trail of dead bodies and injuries in their wake…leading up to something far-reaching and deadly. 

From the ancient copper mines of Northern Michigan, to the suburbs of Chicago, the thick, humid rain forest of Ecuador, and a hidden temple deep in the Amazon jungle, Amazon Roulette will have readers on the edge of their collective seats as Marina races against time to stop her family from its destructive plan. 

Ms. Gleason brings us story with a bit of romance, a great mystery, science, politics, and adventure.  I have to admit it’s not my normal cup of tea but this one kept me reading and wondering what thrilling ride would come up next.  Her characters are strong and well defined and the story flows nicely.

Marina Alexander is strong, direct, and has her faults but owns them.  This installment looks into her relationships, with colleagues, family and friends.  It seems that the other characters continue to develop and we get to know them better by the end of the novel.  You have to read to see what happens next with all of them – there are a few surprises thrown in.

The roulette game is horrifying at times, as is the Skalas.  The Skalas are kind of the bad guys but the feel they are doing what think what they are doing is for the good, but is it?

It is obvious that the Ms. Gleason, did her research while writing this novel.  I fact checked a few things dealing with the history and science.  She is spot on!  Well done.

If you are looking for a great adventure, with some romance thrown in the Amazon Roulette is a keeper.  I look forward to seeing more in the Marina series.

A casual shrug when nothing about her body language suggested she felt relaxed. She crossed her arms beneath her breasts. “Nix says my idea of dancing is sex with clothes on. He couldn’t tolerate it and if he couldn’t….” She trailed off and gaped at him as if she’d just realized she’d been about to insult him.

Micah grinned. “I haven’t lived as long as I have without executing restraint.” He stepped closer to her. “I’ve controlled myself with you more than any other.” Because she is my woman and deserves my respect.

Madison allowed him to pull her arms free of their defensive fold. Holding her gaze, Micah coaxed her into his embrace…left hip to left hip, his leg thrusting between her knees, gliding upward and parting her thighs.

She bit her bottom lip. Her breathing grew shallow. The heavy beat of the music thumped around them. His pulse throbbed faster.

Hell’s delights, she felt fantastic against him.

“Relax,” he said when she remained inflexible. A soft wind would break one of her bones. “I only want to dance with you.” Like when they’d been married, just a different manner of movement. This one more intimate than what they normally partook.

Her focus locked on his jaw, and she sharply inhaled when he slid his palm down her back and settled on her hips. He executed the first moves and she followed. As if magnetized, they gyrated in perfect synchronicity.
