As
a fan of Regency Romances I was eager to try another era to enjoy and
I’m certainly glad I started with this Edwardian treasure. Eve
Kendal is a refreshing treat in a historical romance. She is
self-sufficient and strong and so darn authentic. I enjoyed watching
her deal with her mixed emotions and yet remaining so very capable.
Captain Marcus Thorne is endearing and somewhat daunting yet
incredibly charming. I loved how their positions in life provided
them with a measure of freedom yet also enforced so many restrictions
on them. There was a wealth of emotion in this story and while it was
not overwhelming there was a vast amount of grief that the author
wound seamlessly throughout the pages. The mystery kept my attention
without overpowering the romance and I loved the supporting
characters from the help to the Countess of Averford’s engaging
aunt. I’m looking forward to reading other stories from this time
period and this author.
