Laura Kaye Blog Blitz

Q&A WITH LAURA KAYE
HARD AS YOU CAN is your second book in the "Hard Ink" series (after USA Today bestseller, HARD AS IT GETS). What can readers look forward to?
Readers can look forward to tons of sexy alpha male goodness, awesome bromance between the Hard Ink men, more antics from the Hard Ink puppy, and another great love story between Shane and Crystal. But readers should also be ready for a book that is darker, more intense, and more emotional. This book pushed me to emotional places that were tough as a writer, and might be tough for readers, too. But I think that just makes the payoff at the end so much sweeter!

Describe Shane and Crystal. What are their best traits? What are their weaknesses?
Shane and Crystal are such an amazing couple to me. They’re each exactly what the other needs. Shane’s best traits are his protectiveness, his fundamental kindness, and his soul-deep loyalty (his southern accent and humor are also right up there!). His biggest weakness for sure is a tragedy from the past for which he blames himselfand its something that continues to motivate him in Hard As You Can. Crystal’s best traits are her courage, protectiveness, and selflessnessshes willing to do anything to keep her younger sister safe. Her biggest weakness is also that selflessness, because the sacrifices shes required to make are getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

If you could describe your book in a 140 character tweet, what would it be?

When a woman in trouble assists an ex-soldier's covert mission to regain his team's stolen honor, he finds a new mission to save her, too

What are you most excited about with this second book release?

I’m really excited to take readers deeper into these awesome characters and into the mystery behind the Hard Ink team’s ambush and discharge!

What books are you reading right now?

I’m almost done with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander (yes, I’m very late to the party but OMG JAMIE FRASER!!!). And I’ve recently devoured and loved Juliana Stone’s Offsides and Shelly Thacker’s time-travel historical romance, Forever His.

What can fans of your "Hard Ink" series look forward to next?

There will be two more Hard Ink books in 2014!
Hard to Hold on To August 2014
Hard to Come By November 2014

About HARD AS YOU CAN:

Five dishonored soldiers.

Former Special Forces.

One last mission.

These are the men of Hard Ink.

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he's shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister's sake, Crystal can't get too close. Until her job and Shane's mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He's exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can--and never let go.

It’s release day! And I’m so excited to share Hard As You Can, the second book in the Hard Ink series, with all of you here today! Hard As You Can follows the surviving members of a disgraced Army Special Forces team as they fight to regain their stolen honor, and finds their investigation crossing paths with a waitress willing to do whatever it takes to stay alive and protect her younger sister. For Shane McCallan, saving Crystal Dean is a mission he refuses to turn down.

Today, I’ve got a super sexy scene to share with you, one that was a total surprise to me as I was writing it! I hope you enjoy this peek at the first time Shane and Crystal find themselves alone with each other:

“Do you like to dance, Crystal?” Shane asked in a low voice.

“Uh, what? Why?”

His smile was crooked, playful. “ ’Cause dancing’s something people do when they’re getting to know each other.”

“Really?” Maybe where he was from. Then again, she worked in a strip club. Dancing was something people did to make money. So, okay, maybe her view of dancing was a bit jaded.

“Absolutely. Ask anybody.” The song faded away, followed by the announcement of a Southern rock station’s call sign. A new song started, and Shane turned to her with a smile. “Dance with me.”

Crystal peered up at him without the slightest idea how to respond. Because her body was saying hell, yes!, while her brain was screaming bad idea, really, really bad idea.

He stepped closer, arms raised, expression full of all kinds of invitation.

The next thing she knew, her right hand was in his and her left had slipped around his neck. Ohmigod, ohmigod, ohmigod, ran over and over in her mind. What am I doing? But then he tucked her hand against his chest and tugged her against him with the hand that settled at her lower back. And the closeness stole her breath.

He moved them to the beat of the song, a slow, sexy, bluesy number she didn’t know but would never forget. Some songs carried memories like the images were imprinted upon the very lyrics themselves, and she had no doubt this would be one of them.

All of a sudden, the air in the room felt ten degrees warmer. As they swayed to the beat, Shane’s body pressed against hers from thighs to chest. With every step and move and turn, Crystal’s breasts rubbed against the hard plane of his chest. Strong hands held and guided her body, making her want to feel them explore her everywhere. Arousal rose like a waking dragon inside her. Cautious. Curious. Dangerous.

This was wrong and stupid on so many levels. But, scary as it was, it felt so freaking good that she couldn’t force herself to pull away. One song. It’s just a dance. Just a dance just a dance just a dance.

And, holy crap, she wasn’t the only one aroused.

Against her belly, Shane hardened.

Crystal sucked in a breath, and he pressed his lips close to her ear. “We’re just dancing here. That’s all. I promise,” he said. But the adrenaline was already in her blood, setting her to a trembling she couldn’t control. Part curious interest and part instinctive fear. “Sshh,” he almost cooed. “Just dancing.”

The echo of her own thoughts from a moment before allowed her to draw a breath that almost calmed. They turned and swayed to the music, moving closer, pressing tighter, Shane’s lips so close to her face that she could feel his breath shudder across her cheekbone.

He was a fire she had no business playing with. She knew that even as she leaned her face against his . . . and got exactly what she’d hoped for.

He kissed her.

Just a brush of his lips against her cheek, but a kiss all the same.

And as much as it made her head spin, it was the little catch of breath in the back of his throat that sent a jolt of electricity down her spine to settle low in her belly. Light as a feather, he caressed her cheek, her temple, her ear with his lips. With him, always such gentleness, so different from almost every other sexual experience she’d ever had. It made her feel safe to allow this to continue.

Between them, his erection was firm, long, totally unyielding.

She shivered, caught between interest and fear, desire a river moving faster and faster inside her. The whole experience was a revelation—that her body had the capacity to respond this way, that a person existed who could pull these reactions from her.

For a moment, she gave herself over to the dizzying sensations. In her mind’s eye, she saw them undressing, fumbling their way back the hall, falling naked and wanting on the bed. What would it be like, just once, to take something that she wanted without worrying about anyone else, without being afraid? Just one wild, secret night, all for her? What would Shane be like?

So that’s Shane and Crystal for you! Did you have a favorite line? Thanks for reading!
~Laura

Print Release of UNDONE by Shannon Richard

About UNDONE:
Things Paige Morrison will never understand about Mirabelle, Florida:

  • Why wearing red shoes makes a girl a harlot
  • Why a shop would ever sell something called "buck urine"
  • Why everywhere she goes, she runs into sexy-and infuriating-Brendan King

After losing her job, her apartment, and her boyfriend, Paige has no choice but to leave Philadelphia and move in with her retired parents. For an artsy outsider like Paige, finding her place in the tightly knit town isn't easy-until she meets Brendan, the hot mechanic who's interested in much more than Paige's car. In no time at all, Brendan helps Paige find a new job, new friends, and a happiness she wasn't sure she'd ever feel again. With Brendan by her side, Paige finally feels like she can call Mirabelle home. But when a new bombshell drops, will the couple survive, or will their love come undone?

About Shannon Richard:

Shannon Richard grew up in the Florida Panhandle as the baby sister of two overly protective but loving brothers. She was raised by a more than somewhat eccentric mother, a self-proclaimed vocabularist who showed her how to get lost in a book and a father who passed on his love for coffee and really loud music. She graduated from Florida State University with a BA in English Literature and still lives in Tallahassee where she battles everyday life with writing, reading, and a rant every once in a while. Okay, so the rants might happen on a regular basis. She's still waiting for her Southern, scruffy, Mr. Darcy, and in the meantime writes love stories to indulge her overactive imagination. Oh, and she's a pretty big fan of the whimsy.

EXCERPT:
Paige was wrapped in just a towel as she searched for something to wear. She had exactly twenty minutes before Brendan was supposed to pick her up. There was a knock on her door as her hands closed over a pair of jeans.

"Come in," she called over her shoulder.

The door opened and Paige turned, throwing her jeans onto her bed.

"What time is he picking you up?" Denise asked as she stuck her head inside the doorway.

Paige had a sudden flashback to high school when her mother would help her get ready before a date. She immediately thought of Brendan and Grace and how their mother had died when they were both so young. They’d missed out on so much, especially Grace. Paige couldn’t imagine not having all of those years with her mother and she felt intensely grateful for every single one of them.

"At seven. You busy?"

"No," Denise said, shaking her head.

"Will you sit and talk with me while I get ready?" Paige asked.

"Yeah," Denise said, her mouth breaking into a smile. She opened the door farther and walked into the room, a glass of wine in hand. She shut the door behind her and sat down on the edge of Paige’s bed, just like old times. "What are you going to wear?" she asked, grabbing a pillow and playing with the frilly lace edging.

"Jeans," Paige said, pointing to the pair on her bed. "I haven’t decided on a shirt though," she said and turned back to her closet.

"Shoes?"

"My black wedges." She knew they drove Brendan crazy, and that’s exactly what she planned to do tonight. She didn’t feel guilty about it at all either; he obviously had no problem doing it to her. Turnabout was just fair.

"What about your red peasant top. The one that hangs off your shoulders and hugs your waist."

Paige grabbed the shirt and turned around, holding it up to show her mom.

"Red on a first date?"

"You look good in red," Denise said.

"You don’t think it’s too much?"

Her mother gave the blouse a critical eye. "Just wear ugly underwear. If you wear stuff that you don’t want him to see, you’ll be less likely to sleep with him."

"Mom!" Paige said shocked. "I’m not going to sleep with him on the first date."

"I know. Just wear something to keep you grounded, and then you won’t slip."

"I have some self-control."

"Yes, well, I’ve seen that boy. Slipping would be completely justifiable considering the circumstances."

"What circumstances would those be?" Paige asked as she walked over to her dresser and opened her underwear drawer.

"That gleam in his eyes," Denise said.

"What gleam?" Paige asked, turning to her mom.

"The one he gets when he’s looking at you. It’s something that goes way beyond sex."

"Well, he is a nice young man," Paige said mockingly.

"Yes, he is." Denise nodded, taking a sip of her wine.

She grabbed a fairly tame pair with yellow and white stripes. Stripes didn’t scream "I’m going to have sex tonight," at least not like black or red lace would have. She could’ve sworn she’d read that stripes were unflattering on everyone. Or was that faux fur?

She dug around in the drawer and found her strapless bra. She grabbed her clothes from the bed and went into the bathroom.

Hot Pursuit (A Sugarland Blue Novel) by Jo Davis

In Sugarland, Detective Taylor Kayne is always ready with quick wit and a quicker smile. But he's about to meet a woman who will make him want to take his sweet time....

Taylor is a laid-back, smart-aleck kind of lawman. He's also a man's
man, as well as every woman's private fantasy. But years ago, he was part of a botched hostage situation that ended with him being hailed as a tough-as-nails hero--even though the pain, fear, and shame from that terrible day still haunt his every moment.

Cara Evans couldn't care less about Taylor's pain. In the moment he became a so-called hero, she lost someone she dearly loved. Yet neither of them is prepared for the instant, undeniable attraction that flares between them--or the danger thant's soon hot on their heels.

Jo Davis has released her second book in the series Sugarland Blue about police officers and its fantastic!

Taylor is a police officer with delayed PTSD due to a unsuccessful hostage situation in which several people were killed. He now has to live with the guilt and nightmares from that situation. He moved far away to hopefully leave that behind.

Cara is a head singer in a band and also does bartending. She is living with pain and revenge due to the killing of her sister in a hostage situation.

Taylor and Cara meet at a bar where they are both trying to help out Blake a gay teenager who has been disowned and is struggling on his own. What they don't know is that they both have ties to one another because of that hostage situation.
This romantic suspense story starts off quickly and keeps on going to the very end.

I enjoyed the way the author Jo Davis made the characters feel real and there is so much emotion running through this book.  It kept me on my toes trying to figure out what was going to happen next and if Taylor and Cara could overcome the guilt, pain and revenge to make a life together. The scenes are very steamy, fun to read and make you want to pull for them to get together.

Breath by Lauren Jameson

Welcome to In Vino Veritas, where the temperature is even more scorching inside than out... and where hidden desires comes true...

When business mogul Elijah Masterson travels to the Mexican coast for his chain of luxury resorts, he purchases an emerald green glass sculpture for one of the properties. He is soon fascinated by the fiery temptress who created it. The attraction between them is instant and explosive, but Elijah resists, unsure that a woman as strong-willed as Samantha would ever yield in the way he needs her to.

Headstrong glass artist Samantha Collins hides a secret desire to submit to the right man. Samantha sees everything she wants in Elijah but, apart from one steamy night, he seems determined to keep his distance. She has always held back, but refusing to let go now that she's found the dominant man she's always wanted, Samantha makes
Elijah an offer he can't refuse: a month of absolute submission.

But after a month of incredible passion, will either of them be able to walk away?

Samantha and Elijah were perfect. She gave him hope and made him forgive himself for all he has done. She has shown him that he isn't unlovable. He has shown her that she isn't worthless. That she is tough and capable and nothing like her mother. The more you read it, the more you see how well they balance each other out. The romance between them was so intense it had me rooting for them even when it looked like they were doomed. This is one sexy book.

The development between Samantha and Elijah is mind-blowing and it is created with so much depth. Lauren Jameson constructed a very complex relationship and still made you understand and hunger for more. I'm getting Goosebumps just typing this review. So, you know what that means right?? GO READ IT! IF you are a fan of BDSM definitely pick this up and drop whatever book you are reading now.

Review: Walking on Air by Catherine Anderson

A Valance Family Novel

Random, Colorado, is just another stop on the road for solitary gunslinger Gabriel Valance. Known for his drinking, gambling, and womanizing, he prefers to remain a stranger to anyone who crosses his path. But when an upstart gunslinger catches Gabe off guard and shoots him down, he regrets his empty, lonely life with his dying breath....

Golden-haired beauty Nancy Hoffman settled in Random after fleeing an abusive past. Caring for her younger sister and working in a hat shop help her to forge ahead, though she remains fearful and mistrustful of men—and marriage....

Their paths will cross when Gabe gets a second chance at life and a divine mission: to sweep Nancy off her feet, gain her trust, and convince her to believe in his love. And in doing so, the once-hardened cowboy may save himself....

Catherine Anderson has written a plot that is pretty straight forward .This is about Gabe finding redemption for his past, and about the lives he will touch with this second chance by always doing the right thing. This is about finding a family of your own.You cannot read this book without becoming a part of it; you will come away from this book with a bit of knowledge about the  west but also with a new respect for love and second chances.

Walking on Air is a story that was simply so good that at times I could barely put it down. I would highly recommend it to all romance readers no matter what their usual genre preference our.

Review: Something About Harry by Dakota Cassidy

The Accidental Werewolf 2

He’s in a furry situation.

Accountant Harry Ralph Emerson has always been a by-the-numbers kind of guy. But when he finds himself trapped at work sprouting an obscene amount of hair, he knows his odds for maintaining normalcy are zero to none. After a frantic internet search, Harry goes through the OOPS—Out in the Open Paranormal Support—checklist and comes to a disheartening conclusion: He’s turning into a werewolf and he needs help ASAP.

She might be the only solution.

Werewolf Mara Flaherty has long carried a torch for Pack Cosmetics’ s sexy single accountant, even after her attempt to seduce him went down in flames. When her sister-in-law, Marty, shows up to handle Harry’s OOPS emergency, she tasks Mara with showing the hirsute hottie the ropes. But Mara knows Harry’s condition is a result of her lab experiment gone wrong—and the previously mild-mannered object of her affection is about to give her a piece of his mind…

Dakota Cassidy brings her trademark hilarious  sense of humor back again into another Accidental Series book. Mara and Harry, the heroine and hero of the story are both really great characters. Mara was super smart and logical, very loyal to her friends, and just a genuinely good all-around person (werewolf!). Harry didn’t fit the typical paranormal romance hero, that is he wasn’t an alpha male by any means- instead, he was sort of nerdy and grieving, recently the guardian of two young children due to the death of his sister and making a transition into a creature he had no clue existed. They are good for each other, and I loved how Mara and the rest of the crew formed relationships with the children. The characters other than Mara and Harry are great, for example, Nina, the kick ass vampire, Carl, the vegetarian zombie, and Guido, the incompetent Witch Doctor, they all round out the story wonderfully.Even though I had a blast reading The Accidental Werewolf 2 Something About Harry, I was really annoyed at Harry for not believing the ladies when they told him that he could not “fix the  problem. I mean, really? Why would they lie to him? So apart from that little annoyance, I laughed my way through the book and ended it with a happy sigh.

Who I would recommend this too: I would recommend this to anyone who likes to laugh. However, if you are sensitive to bad language probably not the book for you. you have to like the "off-beat" humor and not give a flip about language to enjoy. If you do however give these books a chance, I guarantee your cheeks will hurt from grinning. They are fantastic :)

Review: Happily Ever After by Lori Wilde

Two Wedding Veil Wishes novels, together for the first time in print!

Legend claims this antique Irish wedding veil can grant your heart's deepest desire. But be careful what you wish for . . .

ADDICTED TO LOVE
Growing up in Valentine, Texas, can make anyone believe in happily ever after. Anyone except Rachael Henderson. After having not one but two grooms ditch her at the altar, Rachael commits an uncharacteristic act of rebellion-and gets arrested by sexy Sheriff Brody Carlton, her childhood crush. Rachael's sworn off of love . . . but now she's fantasizing about Brody. Can it be possible to have her wedding cake and eat it too?

ALL OF ME
When a searing betrayal leaves Jillian Samuel heartbroken and wishing for a fresh start, her newly inherited cottage in Salvation, Colorado, seems like the perfect place to find it.

It has a fireplace, a mountain view-and the most gorgeous and infuriating man she's ever met already living inside! Tuck Manning won't give up his home without a fight, so until they can untangle who owns the cottage, the two resolve to live as roommates. But as the days-and nights-heat up, they find that sometimes salvation comes when you least expect it .

I love it when an author provides secondary romances, in this book, there were at least three additional couples who got page time. I found that there was enough of these other characters to detract from the main story, but I did come to care about them especially Rachael's parents.

"Addicted To Love" is the third book by Lori Wilde in a series about a wedding veil with magical properties to grant the owner their heart's desire. I've read all of them so far and Ms. Wilde delivers a consistent Romantic Read.

Lori Wilde is a supurb author who spins a poignant tale of two lost souls stumbling into each others paths. She introduces secondary characters with just enough detail and action to fill out the story and make you think of them as friends. And she weaves sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, and always tender love story that will stay with you long after you finish the last page.

All Of Me" is the fourth and final book in the 'Wedding Veil Wishes' series and it brings to end a very romantic series. Loved the two main characters, Jillian and Tucker Wilde's flourish for dialog and character description shine. Passionate, intelligent and a little bit sad, you will be swept up in their sweet love story of soul mates who finally meet.Though some of the events were tied up a little too conveniently at the end, you won't mind suspending belief because the book is that good. There are no bad guys and no awful misunderstandings. It's just a fresh and tender slice of life novel. This small town romance is as warm and comforting as the quilts that the ladies create. I definitely recommend this book to everyone!

Review: Bet You Can't Find Me by Linda S. Prather

“Imagine a killer who can kill at will from a distance. No gun, no weapon. Nothing more than a thought."
Catherine Mans has the ability to see and hear what others can’t. With the help of Homicide Sergeant Cody Allen, she’s turned that talent into a successful profession as a psychic consultant.
But Catherine’s past is coming back to haunt her. Someone is threatening the lives of everyone she loves. Nine bodies have been discovered, and Catherine is the FBI’s prime suspect.
To prove her innocence, she must unravel the secrets of her past, and answer the challenge of a deranged psychic.

This was a very clever thriller with many twists and turns. Catherine was brilliant as the heroine trying to piece together her past to try and find out who the killer was, and why they were trying to frame her. The pace was quick and relentless and at times left me breathless. The descriptions of New Orleans and the Bayou made me feel like I was there. There was a huge twist in the tale and when the twist was revealed, everything else made sense! I loved the idea of using a psychic killer, after all how do you catch someone you can't see? The ending was climactic And seemed to leave the way open for more - possibly a series?

If you love a good mystery mixed with the supernatural, and suspense, then this is the book for you. It is a thriller that has you thinking one way, and then within the next few pages you are on a journey that will keep you going until the end. It is like being on a roller coaster. You slowly make your way up to the top, all the time watching how high you are going. Then as you reach the top you say to yourself, “What was I thinking?” Yet it is too late to get off. This book is like a roller coaster. Once you start reading it, there is no turning back. The book will drawl you into the story and the characters. I thought I had it figured out half way through the book, and then sure enough I found out I was wrong. I recommend this as a totally different kind of thriller - a psychic thriller. Linda S. Prather has written a must read.

Review: Christmas in Lucky Harboy Jill Shalvis

I have never before read a novel by Jill Shalvis, and I can see now that I was missing out. She is similar to Debbi Macomber so if you enjoy Ms. Macomber's novel then you'll love Jill Shalvis's as well. I highly recommend starting with this book as it is a compilation of her first two Lucky Harbor novels as well as two short stories.  In the first two books I enjoyed watching the journey the sisters went on learning how to become a family, as well as, how to act like a sister towards each other. My cheek muscles still ache from the humorous situations that they seem to get themselves into. Her characters all have hearts and their own quirks and are not flawless. My personal favorite is Lucille to whom I would dearly love to aspire to become in my senior years. You can not help but cheer for and encourage the people who populate this world. We should all be so lucky to live in a town like Lucky Harbor! I highly this book and can not wait to read more by this author.

Review: BORN TO LOVE by Caridad Pineiro

Book 3 of Vampire Reborn series:

Born to love by Caridad Pineiro is the third of her The Calling/Reborn series. This time around we are learning more about Maggie and David’s story. You can read this as a stand alone but it would definitely make much more sense to read this in order.

Paranormal Romance readers need to check out this series by Ms. Pineiro. It definitely has a few of my favorite things. The dynamic between Maggie, David, Diane, and Ryder is very interesting. In the first half pride, selfishness, and a lack of communication almost ruined one of the couples whilst still keeping apart the second. However, the second half of the book picked up and the magic really started to flow.  Communication started to happen, personal barriers were lowered and healing began. I believe that her characters were all the more believable and enjoyable just because they were so flawed. It showed a real depth of emotion and development of each character.

Review: The Valentine's Arrangement by Kelsie Leverich

Tattoo artist Ronnie Clark is counting the days until Valentine’s Day is over. Ronnie doesn’t do romance. She doesn’t do flowers or dates, and she sure as hell doesn’t do love-not anymore. Love leads to heartbreak, and she’s vowed never to let herself get hurt again.

Sergeant First Class Kale Emerson is home on his midtour leave from Iraq, but he has only one thing on his mind-returning to his soldiers to finish leading their mission. He’s dedicated to his men and to his country, and he is not interested in getting wrapped up in a distracting relationship…but casual sex, that’s a different story. From the moment he sees Ronnie, he wants her. And he agrees to her terms: no romance, no fluff-just passion.

But as their sexual chemistry ignites, the lines of their arrangement get blurry, and Ronnie starts to push Kale away. And when Kale realizes he’s found his match in this gorgeous razor-tongued women who is hell bent against love, winning her heart could be the toughest battle he has ever fought.

This is one of the best written books I have read. I was hooked before the first chapter was even over. I love the way that Kelsie describes the characters in full detail, so much that you can picture what they look like and see the story unfolding in front of your eyes. There was not a part of the book that I did not like. I am looking forward to reading more of Kelsie’s book and would highly recommend this book for all readers.

I love the fact that Ronnie is a tattoo artist but still likes to have fun such as dancing and cooking. I also love the fact that she does not like Valentine’s Day or Romance I feel the same way.

Kale is a great character I am not much for a guy in uniform but the tattoo he got with the poem and the names of the fallen soldiers really showed a softer side of a soldier that you do not normally see. He is a tuff guy which makes him way hot, but then you know that he has a soft side that he is willing to show.
